MEET HASEEB

Haseeb Fatmi has spent his life and career fighting for the values that make our community strong: fairness, service, and opportunity for everyone.

Born in North Carolina to immigrant parents from Bangladesh, Haseeb grew up understanding the importance of giving back to the community that not only shaped him, but welcomed his family.

Haseeb is a proud product of Wake County Public Schools, where his mother worked as an assistant kindergarten teacher. He studied political science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and he credits North Carolina public schools with giving him the skills he needed to thrive.

Inspired by his work on civil rights and community service projects around the country, Haseeb decided to become a lawyer. In law school at Fordham University, Haseeb volunteered extensively with organizations combatting domestic violence and studied the intersection of human rights and mental health. After he graduated, he became a trial attorney and later worked for the Social Security Administration, where he advocated for one of our country’s most important programs helping people in need. He then clerked for a federal judge handling bankruptcy cases and witnessed first-hand the suffering of families buried in medical debt and farmers during an economic recession.

Haseeb has continued his work as an attorney, and he provides pro bono legal services to clients who need representation on social security, domestic violence, and civil rights matters. He also followed in his mother’s footsteps by becoming an educator, teaching trial advocacy at Campbell Law School. He volunteers his time mentoring kids through the Wake County Juvenile Crime Prevention Council and Capital Area Teen Court, an organization he’s worked with for over 25 years.

Prior to his appointment to the North Carolina Senate, Haseeb served as a Wake Forest Town Commissioner, where he fought for responsible development, infrastructure improvements, and support for local businesses.

Haseeb and his wife, Erin, were married in 2019 and later settled in Wake Forest. Outside of work, Haseeb enjoys participating in mudruns, practicing jiu jitsu, and spending time with his dogs, Dorian and Sasha.
